With February fast approaching, Valentines Day reminders are all over the place. However, not all of us have a romantic attachment. So I decided to write a blog entry of how to focus the romantic holiday thru our other loves.
We all have other loves- if you read this blog, ukulele is one of them. And you probably have others. It may be a love for plants, books, creative crafts or collecting a certain thing, but they're there. So why not treat yourself by indulging (in a sensible way!) in one of them in a new way? Lets focus on the ukulele for the sake of this entry. Now for some of you the first thing would be to buy a new uke- that one you've been wanting if you have the money for it. If shopping isn't on your mind, then lets look at other ways to deepen our relationship with this loveable instrument. You could pursue a genre of music that you like but haven't attempted yet- like swing jazz, country, or bluegrass. With March coming, this is the perfect time to learn Irish/Celtic tunes on uke if that's your jam. I personally enjoy taking instruments out of their traditional genres and playing music on them normally not associated with the instrument. Get a flexible schedule going on playing. I don't know about you, but sometimes the other things I have to do may take me away from playing uke for longer than I care to admit. By committing to play 3 days a week, for example, that leaves me free to choose which days and when. And for how long. Even 10 min is helpful. At night, keeping a uke by the bed is great for getting in a little just before bed playing. You can take it with you- if you work with The Artists' Way by Julia Cameron, you could take your uke on an Artists Date. Just don't leave it in your car unattended. If part of your date is to stop in a diner, take the uke with you!

I know there are those of you who meant to make a vid of yourself or your group playing Holiday songs and just didn't get to it. I include myself in that list. If you are like me and just didn't get to it, it's not too late in most instances.
Is your tree still up? If so, take advantage and make a couple of videos for next year. If the tree is down, you can still wear a festive holiday shirt or sweater and belt out a carol or two. For those who are content creators, and you have room in a corner or closet with some spare room, here's what I'm doing: I purchased a 4 ft prelit tree in a pot. I'm keeping that in a closet this year along with a farmhouse style sandwich sign that is also pre lit. (runs on batteries) Both these items are easily stored away and don't take up much room. Which means I can go for option #2: make a vid in my spare time during the Spring or the early Fall. (I don't recommend summer due to the fact it's too hot usually to wear festive winter clothing!) When I was a kid watching the Christmas specials, I didn't know those were typically taped the summer before in an air conditioned sound stage. As I'm starting to take the Christmas decor down, this means I'll have to make my vids soon if I want my actual decorated tree as a backdrop. |
