Well,I didn't expect such a quick shut down again which happened a day or so after I wrote the previous entry. So how is everybody?
I know. The closing back down was a huge disappointment to me too. I didn't think opening bars was a good idea cause I knew what would happen- a few drinks and the patrons were acting like "virus? What virus?" Friends of mine who went to the beach were stunned to see small beach side cafes crammed with people not wearing masks. And predictably, due to denial behavior for the most part (not including those who have breathing difficulties to begin with and can't wear masks) we're nearly back at square 1. At least in Southern CA. I understand the cabin fever. I actually got to shop at a crafts store with a neighbor a few days before everything closed again. Yes,I wore a mask and had hand sanitizer in my purse. It was sooo great to get out and see other people,to see items on shelves. I purchased some 4th of July decor for next year. I did drool in the Halloween aisle. But I think handing out candy this year isn't gonna happen. On the bright side: thank goodness I play ukulele (and other instruments) as it's helped get my mind off things. I have cut way back on watching the news. And speaking of ukulele concerts........how many of you have been catching the wonderful Del Rey doing the Blue Lunch Concerts on You Tube??? This is a must watch. Free, tho she does ask for a few coins in her tip jar for those who can give. She absolutely is delightful and is wonderful at getting your mind off things. Do look her up and watch. Her uke and guitar playing are amazing! She's an inspiration. One of the things I like most about her is her honesty- she's not a tech wiz. It actually adds to the concert. I especially loved her line about her hat that she was wearing. You'll have to watch the concert to hear that-I'm not giving it away! So go look up Del Rey Blue Lunch and smile!

I never thought I'd see the day in which a virus stopped us in our tracks so completely and for this length of time. For many around the country, beaches and fireworks shows are cancelled, leaving us with wondering how to by celebrate safely yet still have a great time without feeling isolated.
Yet here we are. And....lucky for us,we're ukulele players which I think gives us an added edge on being able to celebrate. So here's a few ideas to spice things up for your 4th: Have safe distance get togethers on your lawn for a play a long. And this doesn't need be a "ukulele only" gathering. If neighbors play other instruments, such as guitar, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, etc by all means let them join in! However- the rules are musicians must be 6 ft apart and wear masks. Let's not contribute to the bad habits that are contributing to more lockdowns. Also wear sunscreen & anti mosquito stuff. If you don't want to have a get together on your lawn, give a porch concert starring you. The audience must abide by the mask/safe distancing rule. Spread a little patriotic cheer! if you have children and they play ukulele/musical instruments, have a family 4th jam. Play some songs together. As a non musical aside,I collect historical repro flags from the Revolutionary war era. Starting today I'll be flying a different one each day up to the 4th. It's a way to decorate my porch and show a little history at the same time. Please be safe- Don't mess with illegal fireworks, and keep your pets in at night if possible on the 3rd,4th, & 5th. Last but not least- Have a safe and sane 4th! |
