I got a slightly used Gold Tone Composite Tenor banjo, and loved it except I was finding the traditional tuning of it challenging. And at this point,I also realized I didn't want to have to learn a whole new system. Thankfully, the Gold Tone tenor I have can be used for Irish Tenor tuning as well as the traditional tuning. So- this week I got the proper set of strings by D'Addario for GDAE tuning, and next thing I knew, bluegrass, old time tunes, carols, were just flowing from my fingers. It hit me then how this instrument in this tuning has been boxed into Celtic music (which I enjoy) with no other outlet. Seeing as this tuning is the same as mandolin and fiddle,I see no reason whatsoever why it can't be implemented in Old Time and bluegrass tunes!
So I decided to experiment with a page on Flea Plucker to share my explorations of tenor banjo in fiddle tuning, and see how it goes.
